A family business through the ages
In 2020, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. It is hard to believe how quickly time has passed since our – unfortunately already deceased – founder Helmut Geller began building up the family company alimex. Incidentally, the name alimex combines the words “aluminium”, “import” and “export” and today stands worldwide for the highest quality and precision in aluminium products.
We are a family company and rightly proud of it. We stand for stability, responsibility and sustainable growth. We combine tradition with innovation and shape the corporate landscape in Germany with our value-oriented management. In addition, we at alimex rely on long-term strategies instead of short-term profit maximization. We invest in our employees, promote regional structures and are rooted in our homeland. We are characterized by personal commitment, flat hierarchies and close ties with customers and business partners.
Of course, we have also experienced difficult times. For example, after the global financial crisis. In 2009, we faced a 60 percent drop in sales. The banks issued warnings, consultants came to the company, and insecurity and fear spread among the workforce. The fact that we are still around today is also thanks to our current CEO, who, as an external consultant, was tasked with reviewing the business model, was convinced by it, and joined us as CEO in 2014. Today, Dr. Philip Grothe is also a shareholder in our company. “It is particularly important for family businesses to open up to outsiders when they can no longer make headway on their own. It's the only way to turn things around and save the company, which is often the centerpiece of the family,” says shareholder Christiane Springmeier.
