The future of electric mobility is built on aluminium
Since 2019, we have been co-sponsoring the TUfast Racing Team from the Technical University of Munich.
The TUfast Racing Team (TUM) was founded in November 2002 by five students who wanted to gain practical experience alongside their theoretical studies. Since then, the team has been developing race cars every year to compete in international Formula Student competitions.
- In 2004, TUfast presented its first race car with a combustion engine, the “nb04”.
- In 2011, the “eb011” was the first electrically powered vehicle.
- In 2017, the team presented its first autonomous car, the “db017”.
- In 2021, TUfast succeeded for the first time in developing a vehicle that could compete in both the “Electric” and “Driverless” categories.
The team is currently working on its latest model, the “xb025”, which was presented at “Battery & Power World 2025”. This vehicle sets new standards in Formula Student and combines the latest technology with an innovative overall concept. Components made of alimex aluminium are an essential part of the racing car – precisely because of the advantages offered by aluminium as a material.
“It is light, high-strength, dimensionally stable and easy to work with,” says alimex CEO Dr. Philip Grothe, who is also enthusiastic about the collaboration with the students at the Technical University of Munich. ”It is impressive to see the enthusiasm with which the TUfast Racing Team is involved and what it achieves – alongside their regular studies.”
